owner, Dough Hands (London) · 14 picks
Hannah Drye runs Dough Hands, the London pizza business that made its name on pub residencies in the east of the city before taking on by-the-slice sites of its own. She sells pizza for a living, so it is worth noting how little of her own list is pizza. These fourteen picks come from her Broadsheet interview and her TopJaw Best of London episode, in her own words.
Cafe Mondo! There’s no better snack than a sandwich, and they’ve also got a menu of fun cocktails and beer served in chilled glasses.

Mascara Bar in Stoke Newington is my guilty pleasure. I’ve never had a bad night (or one that I remember!).

Quality Wines. I had one of the best bites of my life – the bifana – here. It's consistently delicious, the wine menu is great, and it’s right by Exmouth Market which is perfect for pre- or post-dinner drinks, especially in the summer.

Tiella! It’s got a beautiful, dimly lit cosy vibe, and what’s sexier than sharing some saucy pasta and a bottle of wine?

Maya’s Bakehouse! It’s ‘round the corner from mine, they have the best cold brew on and I always pick up a little jalapeño cheddar sourdough when I’m there.

Lucia’s. People know about it, but I feel like more people need to get to know it. The smell coming out of that place when you walk past is mad, so smoky and delicious. They do loads of great mezcal, tacos and other bits. It’s a tiny intimate spot and you can watch the chefs cooking up a storm in front of you.

Deffo Fresh Hot Pizza. It’s super light, super crispy pizza. I’d go for the Popeye – creamed spinach and vodka sauce – which I rate a lot for being different to pizzas on other menus at the moment.

Best pizza, Chatsworth Bakehouse. Thick grandma slices. And they sort you out in the queue, they give you little bits of cheesecake.

Best bakery, Toad. They do this posh Jaffa cake. It's like yuzu gel and dark chocolate.
