Where Jean-Georges Vongerichten actually eats in New York

chef-owner, Jean-Georges (New York) · 9 picks

Jean-Georges Vongerichten is the chef-owner of Jean-Georges at 1 Central Park West, and of a restaurant group that runs from New York to Tokyo. Asked where he actually eats, the answers come back domestic and close to home: the cappuccino before work, the family's sushi place, a Negroni around the corner from his apartment. Nine picks, given to the Michelin Guide and Fine Dining Lovers.

Torrisi

Michelin 1-star · Manhattan · Italian · map

I recently visited Torrisi for the first time and while I enjoy going to all the Major Food Group establishments, no matter what city I am in, I thought Torrisi was special and delicious.

I love Torrisi by the Carbone group. I think it's the best Italian in Soho. I have the linguini with their clams and plum tomato on top. They're close to Nolita and Chinatown so they do a pasta, it’s almost like Chinese food. They do a beef ragu with Jamaican spices and spaghetti. If you look at the menu, it’s not just Italian and it’s so amazing. The tortellini with ricotta and tomato sauce is like a pillow.

Dante NYC

Manhattan · Italian · map

In my neighborhood, I love going to Dante for drinks and crispy chicken. I live two blocks away, so it’s my last stop when I want to have a drink and some snacks.

ATOMIX

Michelin 2-star · Manhattan · Korean · map

If I want to go for a tasting menu, I go to Atomix. It’s twelve little dishes, super-inspired. You can only go with two people or else you can’t even talk because it’s a counter. It’s for fourteen seats, and they have two seatings a night. We go and just have a delightful meal.

Omen Azen

Manhattan · Japanese · map

Omen Azen is a restaurant I have been going to for many years. The family-owned business is in the heart of Soho and offers the best Kyoto-style cuisine in NYC.

And there’s another Asian place I love, which not too many people know, called Omen. It’s Kyoto cuisine—like udon, miso cod, tofu—you know, it's not just raw fish, but deliciously cooked cuisine.
