Le Veau d'Or has served traditional French food on the Upper East Side since 1937, long enough to have been called New York's oldest French bistro. It sat closed for nearly five years before reopening in July 2024 under Riad Nasr and Lee Hanson, the Frenchette chefs who bought it in 2019 from the family that had run it since 1985. The people recommending it are not only nostalgists: the chef of Le Bernardin, Momofuku's executive chef, and America's best-known burger historian.
