ALWAYS JOY is a seasonal izakaya that opened on Wing Lok Street in Sheung Wan in March 2025 — a project from Yardbird co-founders Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang, staffed by the team from their closed restaurant RONIN and serving a menu inspired by it. The people who keep naming it aren't chefs: a bartender, the director of Hong Kong's street-art festival and a visiting Los Angeles tattoo artist, each asked on camera where they eat here.

Always Joy, solid, I mean, they change the menu every two, three months
co-founder & managing director, HKwalls · on Fork Lore
They do hospitality really well — you walk in, you never met them before, but then they treat you like you're part of the family.

Shoutout Ronin, but now we're doing Always Joy.
A modern Japanese izakaya culture with an Asian twist, Always Joy is founded by the same team as Yardbird.
Their dishes here are mostly Japanese influenced, but extremely creative and contemporary!
